Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy for Adolescents and Adults in Pennsylvania

Guiding People Towards Growth and Change

Hello, my name is Matthew Weiner. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and my expertise lies in working with individuals who are experiencing symptoms related to trauma, as well as those who need guidance in managing chronic stressors. The techniques I offer are designed not just to provide symptom relief, but also to help people feel unstuck and find meaning and purpose in their lives.

Now accepting Aetna, Oscar Health, United Healthcare, Cigna, and Oxford through Headway.

I approach my work with individuals from a person-centered and trauma-informed perspective, helping them develop coping skills, gain insight, and focus on the present. To support my clinical interests, I completed a Post-Masters certificate in Trauma Studies from Chestnut Hill College and received clinical supervision in Psychodynamic Therapy. My lifelong curiosity about Buddhism and Taoism led me to obtain a certification in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction techniques, and I have also taken multiple courses in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I believe therapy should be a collaborative effort that starts with individuals feeling understood and supported. When working with patients, I prioritize authenticity, combining my natural curiosity with honesty, humor, humility, and hope

What does a first session look like?

A first therapy session typically sets the foundation for the therapeutic relationship and establishes a safe and supportive environment. The session begins with an introduction, a discussion of the therapeutic process, confidentiality, and a review of any necessary paperwork. I encourage patients to share their reasons for seeking therapy and their goals for treatment. We explore their history, including significant life events, relationships, and challenges. Active listening and open-ended questions guide the session as I attempt to learn the patient’s personal narrative. I strive to create create a welcoming space where patients can freely express their thoughts, emotions, and concerns. By the end of the first session, we collaboratively establish the groundwork for future sessions and develop a treatment plan tailored to the individual’s needs.
